April 2008

After a lot of work I've re-created the site skin as proper XHTML+CSS affair. It looks just the same, but it's now much easier to maintain and more reliable cross-browser. I've also re-written my DotNetNuke site map module to drive the new CSS menu as well as the site maps.

On the SQL Server side of things I've been busy too. I've written up the Relative Function Type Performance results on the T/SQL Functions page, this shows actual timings of inline code Vs T/SQL Function Vs CLR Function for a simple test case. I've written a new article describing the various Sources for Metadata and Operational Info and re-written and extended the Using the Default Trace article.

In the Things You Might Not Know section I've added a couple of articles; Statistics are not Transactional includes a bit of background and a demonstration script, sp_updatestats Does Not Update Indexed View Stats includes a bit of background and a script to fix the problem.

A New Dawn, March 2008

A new dawnThis web site has been around in various incarnations for several years as a random collection of half finished pages and to-do notes. Now it's time to pull it all together, tidy up a few rough edges and do things properly. DotNetNuke takes care of the web site framework, an unhealthy number of hours tweaking HTML and CSS means the site looks quite tidy, and being in between contracts lets me fill in some of those half finished pages.

Hope you find something useful here, regards, Rhys.
